Alejandro Reyes Scholarship Valued at $1,500
The scholarship is awarded by the Pan American Association of Philadelphia to a Junior Year student to be used for his or her expenses of Senior Year in a college or a university in the Delaware Valley.

Criteria: (a) Academic grades in subjects related to the Latin American area; (b) academic grades in the Spanish or Portuguese language; (c) participation in extra-curricular activities related to Latin America; (d) experience, if any, in Latin American countries either studying or working; (e) career plans related to Latin America; (f) financial need. Applicants will be notified if a personal interview is necessary.

Procedure: The student candidate should arrange to have forwarded in his name (a) an academic transcript; (b) a letter of recommendation from at least one professor; (c) a letter written by the candidate describing plans for the future as they relate to Latin America. All must be received no later than March 15 in each year.


Janice Bond Award Plaques for Graduating Seniors
Criteria: The Janice Bond memorial plaques are awarded to graduating Seniors of area colleges and universities for general excellence in courses related to Latin America during four years. Other criteria include participation in extra-curricular activities related to Latin America as well as study and service in Latin countries.

The Janice Bond memorial plaques are awarded by the Association to Seniors of several different colleges or universities. No institution, however, shall have more than one recipient of the plaques in a singe year.

Procedure: A senior is to be nominated in a letter written by a professor acquainted with the student. The letter shall include a description of the student’s activities plus a transcript of his or her academic record.


Carmelita Manning Award
Criteria: The Carmelita Manning award is given periodically to a person or organization involved in the performing arts connected to the Latin American culture.

Procedure: Nominations for the Carmelita Manning Award are received from various Latino Community Organizations in the Delaware Valley on an irregular basis. Previous awards have been made on the basis of individual achievement, organizational excellence, innovation and contribution to the community of Latino artists in the Philadelphia region. Nominations must include a description of the achievement, as well as the person’s bio or organization’s history.
