Argentine Ambassador Visits Philadelphia to Strengthen Business and Friendship Ties

Among the activities during this week were:

• Business Forums and meetings with local business leaders intended to strengthen trade and investment relations between Argentina and Greater Philadelphia.
• Official meetings between the Argentine Ambassador Jorge Argüello and city officials.
• Argentine art exhibition at City Hall presenting the works of Argentine artists from the greater Philadelphia area as well as from Maryland, Virginia and DC. The exhibit will be opened to the public from October 29 until November 30.
• Tango demonstrations at Love Park as well as “Milongas” and tango classes in the city will be held all week.
• Event at UPenn with the scientific community intended to promote the research of local Argentine scientists and scholars and to strengthen the relations with Argentine researchers and development institutions, universities, and programs on innovation, science and technology. • Flag raising at City Hall.
• Itinerant Consulate to serve the Argentine community of Greater Philadelphia.

The AWP takes place at a time when the cultural and business ties between the Greater Philadelphia area and Argentina are stronger and more prosperous. In fact, Greater Philadelphia hosts an Argentine community of more than 4,000 people, teachers and researchers at top universities, business men and women in various sectors, working as independent professionals, and collaborating with civil society organizations.

Several leading Philly companies such as Unisys, Colorcon, FMC, and Air Products and Chemicals, among others, are already investing and doing business in Argentina. What is more, the trade volume between Argentina and Greater Philadelphia area has increased 36% from 2010 to 2011 and the exports from the ports of Wilmington and Philadelphia during the same period grew almost 16% making an important contribution to the development of the region.
