Does Central America Need Them?

Guatemala and Nicaragua have announced plans to build inter-oceanic connections. These would compete with the Panama Canal, which is undergoing major construction to accommodate larger ships. Analysts are skeptical about whether the Guatemalan and Nicaraguan routes will be built and whether they can compete with Panama, a route which is considered cheaper and safer.
