Dueling Perspectives on Latin America

Recently Vice President Joe Biden visited Colombia, Trinidad-Tobago, and Brazil. Purpose of the trip was to promote  trade and cooperation on energy. VP Biden wrote an article in the Wall Street Journal, trumpeting the promising future of Latin America and the need for stronger engagement between the United States and Latin America. Mary O’Grady, the Journal’s feisty Latin American correspondent, took umbrage and criticized him for, among other things, being a recent convert to free trade (notably the free trade agreement with Colombia), something that he and his party had opposed.
