Mexico and Brazil: competing economic models?

As recently as two years ago Brazil was the new economic star in Latin America, though Chile held that fame for two decades as Latin America’s tiger. This commentary states that “ Mexico is now being hailed as the hot performer – and praise is being heaped on Mexico City for making things happen.” Among the factors mentioned is that Mexico is much more open to trade than Brazil. Experts debate whether Mexico’s performance is sustainable for the long term. Moreover, Brazil’s ability to export to the global market should not be underestimated. The analysis comes from a former Finance Minister of Chile.
