Crime Brings out Military in Dominican Republic

military

One of the unpleasant realities of life in Latin America is the high rate of crime. So much so that a number of countries have brought out the military to support the police in providing public security. The measure is controversial because the military is not trained nor equipped to conduct police operations. At the same time the police may be ineffective because they are often poorly trained, poorly equipped, and poorly paid. Attached article describes the situation the Dominican Republic.
